In a significant move to enhance user engagement, Microsoft Bing has unveiled the Bing Video Creator, a new feature that harnesses OpenAI’s Sora model to transform text prompts into videos. This groundbreaking initiative, announced on Monday, marks the first time Sora’s video generation capabilities are accessible for free, despite being primarily reserved for premium customers. Currently, the Bing Video Creator is exclusively available on mobile devices, with desktop users left waiting. Users should note that video generation can be time-consuming; even in 'fast' mode, production may take hours instead of the expected few minutes. Anyone with a Microsoft account can create up to 10 video clips at no charge, after which each additional video will require 100 Microsoft Rewards points—earned through Bing searches or purchases from the Microsoft Store. For instance, performing a search with Bing can yield 5 points, capped at 150 points daily. Users can queue three 5-second video generations simultaneously, though they cannot customize the video length yet. Currently, videos are produced in a vertical 9:16 format, likely aimed at platforms like TikTok and Instagram, with plans for horizontal uploads to follow soon.
