San Francisco’s pro-billionaire march draws dozens

In an unusual show of support for the wealthy, a march took place in San Francisco on Saturday, but the turnout was far from impressive. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that only around thirty attendees showed up, accompanied by a handful of counter-protesters who added a humorous twist to the event. Organized by Derik Kauffman, the so-called "March for Billionaires" was anticipated to attract just a few dozen participants, and the reality matched that expectation. Despite its limited size, the demonstration gained significant traction on social media due to its peculiar premise. At the event, the presence of journalists almost equaled that of the demonstrators, who showcased signs with messages such as "We ❤️ You Jeffrey Bezos" and "It's very difficult to write a nuanced argument on a sign." The march aimed to voice opposition to the Billionaire Tax Act, a proposed measure that would levy a one-time, 5% tax on Californians with a net worth exceeding $1 billion. Governor Gavin Newsom has expressed intentions to veto the measure if it were to pass. Kauffman, the founder of the AI startup RunRL and not a billionaire himself, shared his thoughts with reporters, stating, "California is, I believe, the only state to give health insurance to people who come into the country illegally. I think we probably should not be providing that." It is noteworthy that fourteen other states do offer healthcare services to undocumented immigrants.
