In a strategic move to enhance its omnichannel payment capabilities, BillDesk announced on February 25 that it will acquire the payment operations of Worldline India, a subsidiary of the French payments giant. This acquisition aims to create a comprehensive platform that integrates online, in-store, and bank-level payment systems. Pending regulatory approvals and other closing conditions, this deal will merge BillDesk’s extensive online payment aggregation services with Worldline India's sophisticated bank transaction switching technology and merchant acquisition infrastructure. This infrastructure includes essential elements such as point-of-sale terminals and QR code payment systems, though financial details of the acquisition remain undisclosed. As one of India’s leading payment processors serving banks, government entities, and enterprises, BillDesk views this acquisition as a significant step toward offering a consolidated payments solution. The integration is expected to facilitate a seamless experience for digital transactions, recurring payments, cross-border transactions, and in-store purchases, particularly in both urban and smaller markets. BillDesk co-founder M. N. Srinivasu emphasized that this acquisition represents a long-term investment in India’s burgeoning digital payments sector. He stated, "This transaction is a forward-looking investment in India’s payments ecosystem. It enhances our capability to provide a more connected and scalable payments experience for banks, businesses, and merchants, while fostering digital adoption across diverse markets." Additionally, this acquisition will enable BillDesk to penetrate new regional markets more effectively and strengthen its presence among small to mid-sized merchants. Legal guidance for the transaction was provided by Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, while EY served as the diligence advisor for the deal.
