Electric aircraft startup Beta Technologies seeks to raise $825M in IPO

Beta Technologies, a pioneering electric aviation startup, is setting its sights on raising up to $825 million through its upcoming initial public offering (IPO). The company has established a share price range between $27 and $33, as detailed in a regulatory filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). If the company successfully attracts investors at the upper end of this range, it would launch with an impressive valuation of approximately $7.2 billion. Founded in 2017 by Kyle Clark, a former professional hockey player turned CEO, Beta Technologies is headquartered in Vermont. The company filed for its IPO on a Wednesday, navigating regulatory complexities even amid a government shutdown. Notably, the SEC recently provided guidance permitting companies to have certain IPO statements, including share pricing, automatically become effective after 20 days, bypassing the traditional review process. This move has enabled several firms, including Navan, to advance their IPO plans without delay. Clark's entrepreneurial journey diverges from the conventional Silicon Valley route, as he opted to remain in his hometown of Vermont while securing funding for the development of electric aircraft. Remarkably, Beta has never engaged in venture capital, instead raising an impressive $1.15 billion from institutional investors, including Fidelity and the Qatar Investment Authority. In an exciting development last month, Beta Technologies announced a strategic partnership with GE Aerospace. This collaboration aims to produce a hybrid-electric turbogenerator for next-generation aircraft, with GE Aerospace set to invest $300 million and acquire a stake in the company. This partnership signifies a major step forward in Beta’s mission to revolutionize the aviation industry with sustainable technology.
