Swish, a food delivery startup based in Bengaluru, has successfully secured $38 million in its latest funding round, marking a significant milestone for the company that is just 18 months old. This Series B round was spearheaded by Hara Global and Bain Capital Ventures, with contributions from notable investors including Accel, Stride Ventures, and Alteria Capital. The latest funding boosts Swish's valuation to $139 million, more than double that of a year ago, bringing its total funding to $54 million. The landscape for ultra-fast food delivery in India remains challenging, as larger competitors like Swiggy, Zepto, and Zomato have recently curtailed their rapid delivery services due to operational complexities and rising costs. In contrast, Swish has adopted a full-stack business model, managing its own kitchens, supply chain, and delivery network, focusing on dense, hyperlocal areas with a delivery radius of approximately one kilometer. This approach allows Swish to achieve better economic outcomes compared to marketplace models reliant on third-party restaurant commissions. Currently, Swish boasts a daily delivery volume of around 20,000 orders, a significant increase from about 5,000 four months prior, as it expands into 10 micro-markets across Bengaluru. The startup is also investing in automated kitchen operations to enhance delivery speed and maintain consistency. Co-founder and CEO Aniket Shah emphasized the importance of proximity to customers, stating, "We are very dense, very close to the customer, ensuring that we are able to almost act like a restaurant kitchen, bringing food to your table." Offering a diverse menu of over 200 items, including meals, snacks, and beverages, Swish's average order value ranges from ₹200 to ₹250 (approximately $2–$3). The platform's user engagement is notably high, with top customers placing orders more than 10 times a month, primarily among urban consumers aged 20 to 35. Shah noted that Swish's older kitchen clusters have become profitable, although he did not disclose specific margins per order. Looking ahead, Swish aims to broaden its footprint within Bengaluru and venture into new markets such as Delhi-NCR and Mumbai. However, the startup's success hinges on maintaining a focus on dense urban clusters and achieving high order volumes. The future will reveal whether the ongoing investor enthusiasm is warranted, especially as larger rivals continue to reassess their rapid-delivery strategies.
