A new film is reportedly in development that will depict the tumultuous events surrounding OpenAI, particularly the dramatic firing and subsequent rehiring of co-founder and CEO Sam Altman within just five days. As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, the project, titled "Artificial," is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios. Although specifics are still being finalized, sources indicate that acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino, recognized for his work on films like "Call Me by Your Name" and "Challengers," is in discussions to helm the project. The studio is also eyeing Andrew Garfield to take on the role of Altman, with Monica Barbaro, known from "A Complete Unknown," potentially playing former CTO Mira Murati, and Yura Borisov, from "Anora," being considered for Ilya Sutskever, a co-founder who was pivotal in Altman's initial ousting. Furthermore, the screenplay is reportedly crafted by "Saturday Night Live" writer Simon Rich, hinting at a comedic tone that could mirror the absurdity of the real-life events. The narrative is set against the backdrop of the AI industry's quirky landscape, making it a fitting subject for humor. In November 2023, Altman was ousted from his role as CEO and resigned from the board due to a lack of trust from the board members. However, after extensive discussions, he was reinstated just five days later. The anticipation for how "Artificial" will depict this high-stakes drama is growing, particularly as AI technologies like ChatGPT become more entrenched in daily life.
