Wildwoodfeaturette lifts the veil on building its stop-motion world

Prepare to be captivated by the artistry behind Wildwood, the upcoming stop-motion animated fantasy film directed by Travis Knight. Laika Studios has recently unveiled an engaging behind-the-scenes featurette that highlights the meticulous process of constructing this intricate animated realm, piece by piece. This featurette follows an extended teaser released back in May, which has already garnered nearly 90 million views. Based on the 2011 novel by Colin Meloy—who is also the lead singer of the indie folk rock band The Decemberists—and illustrated by his wife, Carson Ellis, Wildwood takes inspiration from the enchanting Forest Park in Portland, Oregon. The couple often explores this local treasure, which they have transformed into a magical landscape inhabited by talking animals and hidden dangers, accessible only to the inhabitants of The Wood and a select group of Outsider “half-breeds.” The story follows twelve-year-old Prue McKee as she embarks on a quest through this mystical forest after her baby brother, Mac, is abducted by a murder of crows. Joined by her schoolmate, Curtis Mehlberg, Prue navigates this fantastical world, encountering a mysterious woman named Alexandra, who is desperate to find her lost son, along with a host of coyotes, bandits, and undisclosed secrets.
