OnePlus 13s vs Samsung Galaxy A56 vs Google Pixel 9a: Which phone to buy?

OnePlus 13s vs Samsung Galaxy A56 vs Google Pixel 9a: Which phone to buy?

OnePlus has unveiled its inaugural compact flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 13s, in India, showcasing the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor alongside a host of advanced AI features. Priced effectively at ₹49,999 with bank offers, the OnePlus 13s enters the competitive arena against premium offerings from Samsung and Google. The Samsung Galaxy A56 boasts a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1200 nits, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+. In contrast, the Google Pixel 9a comes equipped with a 6.3-inch Full HD+ OLED display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate and achieves a brightness of 1800 nits, albeit with the less robust Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The OnePlus 13s features a 6.32-inch 1.5K LTPO AMOLED display capable of reaching 1600 nits of brightness and supports Dolby Vision. Its display adapts between 1Hz and 120Hz based on the content, enhancing battery efficiency and showcasing a higher resolution with minimal bezels, a point where its competitors fall short. Under the hood, the Galaxy A56 runs on the Exynos 1580 processor paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, while the Pixel 9a is powered by Google’s Tensor G4 chipset with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. Despite their capabilities, both processors lag behind the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite in the OnePlus 13s, which also supports LPDDR5x RAM and faster UFS 4.0 storage. Battery-wise, the Galaxy A56 is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery supporting 45W wired charging, while the Pixel 9a features a slightly larger 5,100mAh battery capable of 23W wired and 7.5W wireless charging. The OnePlus 13s impressively offers a 5,850mAh battery with an included 80W charger, although it lacks wireless charging functionality. The software experience on the OnePlus 13s, running on OxygenOS 15, is clean and free from ads, similar to the stock Android experience on the Pixel 9a. In contrast, the Galaxy A56, with its toned-down OneUI 7, is criticized for its numerous ads and pre-installed applications. OnePlus commits to providing four years of OS updates and six years of security patches, while Samsung and Google extend a more robust support policy of six and seven years respectively. While a direct camera comparison is not feasible without hands-on testing, specifications suggest the Pixel 9a houses a 48MP primary camera with OIS and a 13MP ultra-wide lens, complemented by a 13MP front camera. The A56 features a 50MP primary lens with OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 5MP macro sensor, alongside a 12MP front camera. The OnePlus 13s takes the lead with a dual 50MP setup for the rear, including a telephoto lens, and a 32MP front camera. In summary, the OnePlus 13s stands out with its superior display quality, flagship processor, larger battery, and faster charging. However, it lacks an ultra-wide angle lens and falls short in IP rating compared to the IP67 and IP68 ratings of the Samsung and Google devices, which may be important for some users. Stay tuned for the latest technology news and updates.
