The competition in the premium smartphone arena is heating up as Apple unveils the iPhone 17 Pro Max, just as Samsung's Galaxy S25 Ultra claims its space on store shelves. With both devices showcasing cutting-edge technology, prospective buyers are faced with a tough decision. The iPhone 17 Pro Max boasts a stunning 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits—an upgrade from its predecessor’s 2,000 nits. Apple has enhanced durability with Ceramic Shield 2, promising triple the scratch resistance and quadruple the crack resistance of earlier models. Its ProMotion technology delivers a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, complemented by Always-On functionality. Similarly, the Galaxy S25 Ultra features a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, reaching peak brightness levels of 2,600 nits. This screen supports a variable refresh rate of 1Hz to 120Hz and is safeguarded by Corning Gorilla Armor 2, while its slightly rounded corners give it a distinctive appearance. Running on One UI 7 over Android 15, it offers a modern and customizable user experience. Under the hood, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is powered by the new A19 Pro chipset, running on iOS 26. The device incorporates a vapour chamber cooling system for improved efficiency and performance. Its 16-core Neural Engine facilitates advanced AI features, enabling tasks like on-device translation and real-time machine learning, all with a focus on user privacy. In contrast, the Galaxy S25 Ultra runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, supported by 12GB of RAM and storage options up to 1TB. It integrates Galaxy AI capabilities and is compatible with Google’s Gemini AI assistant, ensuring long-term software support for up to seven years. Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the iPhone 17 Pro Max's triple camera system, featuring a 48-megapixel “Fusion” camera with an upgraded telephoto lens that enables 8x optical zoom. Improvements in the main and ultra-wide cameras, thanks to the Photonic Engine, enhance low-light performance. The front-facing camera, at 18-megapixels, supports dual-capture video. The S25 Ultra, however, takes the lead in resolution with its impressive 200-megapixel main camera. It also includes telephoto lenses with 3x and 5x optical zoom capabilities, complemented by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The front camera offers a 12-megapixel option, catering to a range of photographic needs. When it comes to battery life, Apple claims the iPhone 17 Pro Max provides the longest battery life of any iPhone to date. It features fast charging, reaching 50% in just 20 minutes with a 40W USB-C adapter. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, equipped with a 5,000mAh battery, supports 45W wired charging and 15W Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, offering robust options for users on the go. On the connectivity front, the iPhone 17 Pro Max supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, enhancing AirDrop and Personal Hotspot functionalities. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25 Ultra offers 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and retains S Pen support for those seeking productivity. Price could be a significant factor for consumers. The Galaxy S25 Ultra starts at ₹1,29,999 for the 256GB model, while its 512GB and 1TB variants are priced at ₹1,41,999 and ₹1,65,999, respectively. The iPhone 17 Pro Max, however, begins at ₹1,49,900 for 256GB and goes up to a staggering ₹2,29,900 for the 2TB model. As Apple leans on advanced AI and cinematic features, Samsung emphasizes ultra-high-resolution photography and extensive zoom capabilities. Consumers will have to choose between Apple's intelligent ecosystem and Samsung's powerhouse performance.
