
On Saturday, Microsoft announced that users of its Azure cloud services may experience heightened latency due to the severing of several undersea cables in the Red Sea. The incident has prompted concerns as it affects data traffic routed through the Middle East, as well as connections to Asia and Europe. While the company did not disclose the identity of those responsible for the cable cuts or the reasons behind the incident, it emphasized the challenges associated with repairing undersea fiber cables. In their update, Microsoft stated, "Undersea fiber cuts can take time to repair, as such we will continuously monitor, rebalance, and optimize routing to reduce customer impact in the meantime." Fortunately, by Saturday evening, Microsoft reported that there were no longer any detected issues affecting Azure services, alleviating concerns for clients relying on the platform.
