A key figure in Amazon Web Services (AWS) is set to leave the company after nearly 19 years of service. Dave Brown, who serves as a senior vice president, announced his departure, effective at the end of this month, to pursue new opportunities outside the organization. This news was shared with employees by Matt Garman, CEO of AWS, in a message highlighting Brown's significant contributions to the cloud business. Brown joined AWS during its early days and played a crucial role in developing its fundamental EC2 service, which allows businesses to rent virtual servers billed by the second. His expertise has been pivotal as AWS expanded its offerings, particularly in compute and machine learning services, including the popular Bedrock and SageMaker platforms. In Garman's message, he expressed gratitude for Brown's influence in shaping AWS, acknowledging his leadership in fostering the technology, business, and team dynamics over the years. To fill the void left by Brown, Dave Treadwell, a prominent executive from Amazon's e-commerce sector, will take over his responsibilities. In a note to his team, Brown reflected on his decision to leave, stating that it felt like the right moment for a new chapter in his career. He reassured his colleagues that the future of their organization is secure under Treadwell's leadership, praising him for his technical knowledge and commitment to customer satisfaction. Brown's exit occurs at a time when AWS is experiencing substantial growth, particularly in the AI sector, with a reported 28% increase in revenue during the first quarter. This trend mirrors the broader market surge in AI investments, with competitors like Microsoft and Google also benefiting from the rising demand for AI services.
