AWS launches new Nova AI models and a service that gives customers more control

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced a new suite of AI models and a groundbreaking service aimed at empowering enterprise customers to create tailored versions of these models. During a keynote at the AWS Re:Invent conference, CEO Matt Garman unveiled Nova 2, which expands the existing Nova model lineup with four innovative AI models. Originally launched last year, the Nova series included several text-generating models and one for image generation. This year's enhancements promise to elevate the functionality of these models significantly. Garman expressed enthusiasm about the growing adoption of Nova, stating, "The momentum has been really fantastic. Nova is now utilized by tens of thousands of clients, ranging from marketing leaders to tech innovators like Infosys, Blue Origin, and Robinhood, along with pioneering startups such as NinjaTech AI. Today, we are making Nova even better." The new models include Nova 2 Lite, designed as a cost-effective reasoning model. This model enhances AI's ability to 'think' before responding, effectively handling text, images, and videos for everyday tasks. In contrast, Nova 2 Pro is a sophisticated reasoning agent that excels in processing complex tasks, including coding, by analyzing text, images, video, and speech. Nova 2 Sonic introduces a speech-to-speech model tailored for conversational AI, while Nova 2 Omni is a multimodal reasoning model capable of interpreting and generating text and images from various input types. In addition to these model upgrades, AWS launched Nova Forge, a new service that allows AWS cloud clients to develop custom versions of the Nova models, termed Novellas, for an annual fee of $100,000. This service facilitates access to pre-trained, mid-trained, or post-trained models, enabling companies to fine-tune these models with their proprietary data. Garman noted that this customization can address challenges enterprises face when integrating their data into existing AI frameworks, likening the process to the complexities of learning a new language later in life. Early adopters of Nova Forge include notable companies like Reddit, Sony, and Booking.com, showcasing the growing interest in customized AI solutions.
