Amazon Web Services (AWS) is making waves in the tech industry with the introduction of Amazon Bedrock Agent Core, an innovative platform designed to revolutionize the way enterprises create and deploy AI agents. Announced at the company's New York Summit, this enterprise-grade solution aims to provide a comprehensive environment for organizations to develop AI agents at scale. Swami Sivasubramanian, AWS's Vice President of Agentic AI, emphasized the significance of this platform during his keynote, stating that Agent Core will enable businesses to transition from experimental setups to fully operational agent systems. These systems are poised to handle critical business functions securely and efficiently. Agent Core is a modular suite of services that offers the essential infrastructure for taking AI agents from concept to full deployment. The platform includes features such as runtime capabilities, memory management, identity verification, observability tools, API integration, as well as utilities for web browsing and code execution. Deepak Singh, AWS Vice President of Databases and AI, highlighted the evolving nature of AI tools, suggesting that the distinction between agents and traditional applications is becoming increasingly blurred. This new platform builds on the existing Bedrock Agents framework, which was launched in late 2024, but significantly enhances functionality by accommodating a variety of agent frameworks and foundation models beyond those hosted within Bedrock. Among the supported frameworks are popular open-source options such as Crew AI, Lang Chain, Llama Index, Lang Graph, and AWS’s Strands Agents SDK. Furthermore, Agent Core's integration with the AWS Marketplace allows teams to easily find and implement pre-built agents and tools. Designed with interoperability as a core principle, Agent Core adheres to emerging industry standards, including MCP and Google's Agent-2-Agent (A2A) protocol. Key features like Agent Core Identity and Gateway ensure that agents can securely interact with both internal systems and third-party APIs, establishing clear permissioning. AWS's latest offering positions the company at the forefront of the rapidly growing enterprise AI market, competing against similar platforms from OpenAI and Google. Early access partners have already begun leveraging Agent Core to create production-grade applications across diverse sectors, including finance, healthcare, marketing, and content management. For instance, Box, a cloud document storage company, is utilizing Strands Agents with Agent Core Runtime to enhance its content management capabilities, promising top-tier security and compliance. Brazil’s Itaú Unibanco is also on board, using the platform to develop personalized digital banking solutions that integrate automation and customer-centric personalization. In the healthcare arena, Innovaccer has launched a new protocol, HMCP (Healthcare Model Context Protocol), built on Agent Core Gateway. The CEO, Abhinav Shashank, describes this as a transformative tool that streamlines the conversion of APIs into agent-compatible resources while ensuring trust and compliance. Marketing firm Epsilon is tapping into the potential of Agent Core to expedite campaign development, predicting a 30% reduction in build times and improved customer journey personalization. Currently, Agent Core is available in preview across select AWS regions, including the US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Sydney), and Europe (Frankfurt), with a free trial available until September 16, 2025. After this period, pricing will be consumption-based, allowing users to pay only for what they use without any upfront commitments. Each component of the service is charged separately, enabling flexibility in usage. Developers eager to learn more can access AWS's comprehensive documentation, GitHub samples, and a dedicated Discord community to get started with Agent Core.
