AvenuesAI bets on on-premise AI as firms seek tighter control over data

AvenuesAI Limited, a publicly traded fintech firm, is taking a significant step in the artificial intelligence arena by developing fully on-premise AI models through its subsidiary, PhroneticAI. This initiative comes as enterprises increasingly prioritize keeping sensitive data within their own infrastructures. The company is focused on creating a platform utilizing small language models (SLMs) that can be deployed entirely within a client’s internal systems, ensuring that no data is transmitted outside the organization. According to Chairman and Managing Director Vishal Mehta, this shift is a direct response to growing apprehensions surrounding data security and privacy in AI applications. "As companies continue to navigate the complexities of data security while using AI tools, concerns are mounting about how data is handled," Mehta explained. This development occurs at a time when many organizations are reconsidering their dependence on AI systems reliant on external servers, particularly as discussions around data control and sovereignty intensify. Mehta pointed to recent developments involving major AI firms like OpenAI and Anthropic, which have spurred global concerns regarding data independence. Enterprises that manage sensitive information are becoming increasingly wary of the potential exposure of their data through third-party platforms. The drive toward on-premise AI has also been influenced by recent disruptions in outsourced digital services. For example, a mid-2025 incident with Nayara Energy saw Microsoft temporarily halt cloud and email services due to compliance with European Union sanctions. Although the Delhi High Court intervened and services were restored within a matter of days, this event underscored the risks associated with relying on external infrastructures. In response to these challenges, AvenuesAI is developing SLMs with parameters ranging from 1 billion to 10 billion, which can be trained on a client’s proprietary data and fully deployed within their internal systems. The platform is engineered to manage enterprise data across various formats, including documents, spreadsheets, audio, video, and images, while providing tools for monitoring and retraining models within the organization’s network. Mehta emphasized that the company's goal is to empower clients to operate independently once the system is in place, without the need for ongoing backend access from the vendor. Despite the existence of contractual protections, there remains a notable reluctance among companies to share sensitive data with external AI providers. AvenuesAI's commitment to on-premise SLMs signifies a broader trend in enterprise AI adoption, where data control, compliance, and localization are becoming critical factors in decision-making, alongside performance and cost considerations.
