Stealth AI startup Aurasell raised $30 million in seed funding in 28 hours to take on Salesforce

In a remarkable achievement, Aurasell, an AI startup emerging from stealth mode, has successfully raised $30 million in seed funding within just 28 hours. This significant investment aims to challenge established giants like Salesforce and transform the landscape of sales software. Aurasell's primary objective is to automate sales processes and integrate various tools and AI agents that currently operate on top of customer relationship management (CRM) platforms such as Salesforce. The startup offers a suite of sales tools designed for forecasting, prospecting, and account management among other functions. The funding round, which was announced on Tuesday, was led by Next47, with participation from Menlo Ventures and Unusual Ventures. Co-founder and CEO Jason Eubanks, who previously held a venture partner role at Next47, revealed that the company began its development journey in August 2023 and closed the funding round in June 2024. With a rich background as a sales executive at companies like Cisco Meraki and Twilio, Eubanks co-founded Aurasell alongside CTO Srinivas Bandi, with whom he previously collaborated at software delivery company Harness. Eubanks emphasized the issue of 'tool bloat' in sales teams, which not only incurs high costs but also hampers productivity. He recalled his experience at Harness, where nearly a dozen different tools were used, resulting in millions spent on software subscriptions. "There's an opportunity to use AI to inject intelligence in an automated way into these processes that were formerly manual," Eubanks stated, underscoring the need for innovation in sales automation. The initial phase of funding saw Aurasell raising the first $25 million in just 12 hours, with the round initially oversubscribed at $40 million before being adjusted downwards. Eubanks noted that the investors had prior connections with both him and Bandi, which helped in attracting their interest in the substantial problem Aurasell aims to address. Bandi explained that the sizable seed round was necessary due to the significant costs involved in building an AI system from scratch. The company has brought on about 40 engineers, with half specializing in AI, and operates with 70% of its workforce based in San Francisco and the rest in India. Aurasell generates revenue through annual subscription fees charged per user. As Aurasell sets its sights on disrupting the sales software market with AI, it joins a competitive landscape that includes companies like Boston-based Creatio, which raised $200 million last year, and Seattle's Clarify, which announced a $15 million Series A funding round in June.
