An Indiana bankruptcy lawyer, sharing the same name as Meta's CEO, has taken legal action against the tech giant, alleging wrongful suspensions of his Facebook account for impersonation. Mark S. Zuckerberg, with nearly 40 years of experience in law, claims that his account has faced suspension five times in the last eight years. Despite providing various forms of identification—including his photo ID and credit cards—the lawyer was flagged repeatedly for allegedly pretending to be someone else. The lawsuit, filed in Marion Superior Court, details how Meta's actions not only affected his personal account but also his business pages, leading to the removal of paid advertisements worth approximately $11,000 and resulting in substantial financial losses. Zuckerberg described the disruptions as akin to paying for a billboard that is subsequently covered up, depriving him of the advertising benefits for which he had paid. The most recent suspension occurred in May, rendering his business page inactive for months. He expressed frustration over the appeals process, stating that he often received delayed responses from Meta, sometimes waiting over six months for account restoration. Following the filing of the lawsuit, Meta acknowledged the mistake, reinstating his account and admitting that it had been "disabled in error." The company stated its commitment to preventing such issues in the future. However, the attorney argues that the repeated suspensions have inflicted genuine financial and reputational damage, stating, "It’s not funny. Not when they take my money." To document his experiences, he has created a website that outlines similar incidents, including a peculiar case where he was wrongly sued by the state of Washington. His legal action aims for not only the permanent restoration of his account but also reimbursement for lost advertising funds, attorney fees, and compensation for the disruption caused to his business.
