Chip giant ASML raises 2026 guidance as AI semiconductor demand stays strong

ASML has raised its sales projections for 2026 following a robust first quarter that exceeded revenue and profit forecasts, largely fueled by the ongoing demand for AI-related semiconductors. The Dutch semiconductor equipment manufacturer has revised its expectations, now estimating net sales for 2026 to fall between 36 billion euros and 40 billion euros, an increase from its earlier forecast of 34 billion euros to 39 billion euros. CEO Christophe Fouque highlighted the strong growth trajectory of the semiconductor industry, attributing it to sustained investments in AI infrastructure. "Demand for chips is significantly outpacing supply," Fouque stated in a recent press release. He noted that customers are ramping up their capacity expansion plans for 2026 and beyond, bolstered by long-term agreements with their clients. ASML plays a crucial role in the semiconductor sector, providing the essential tools for the production of cutting-edge chips. Its key client, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), reported record revenue for the first quarter, underscoring the strong market for AI chips. However, ASML is encountering challenges, particularly in China, where export restrictions prevent the shipment of its most advanced machinery. Compounding these issues, a bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers has introduced legislation that could prohibit the export of even ASML's less-advanced machines to China, although this bill is still in the legislative process. This situation continues to evolve, and further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
