In a significant development for the modular data center industry, Armada has successfully raised $230 million in a Series B funding round, as announced on Tuesday. Based in San Francisco, Armada is gaining traction among clients in sectors such as defense, energy, and the military, and was recently recognized in the 2026 CNBC Disruptor 50 list, bringing its valuation to $2 billion. This funding round coincides with a strategic manufacturing partnership with Johnson Controls. The collaboration aims to establish a new 400,000-square-foot factory named Galleon Forge One in Arizona, where the production of Armada's innovative Leviathan data centers will commence this summer. This facility is projected to create over 500 jobs and will facilitate the rapid deployment of modular data centers that stand apart from traditional large-scale facilities. Armada's modular designs can integrate seamlessly with existing energy sources, such as solar and gas flares from oil wells, allowing for deployment within days rather than years. This on-site capability is crucial for processing AI data, reducing the need for extensive data transmission. Dan Wright, co-founder and CEO of Armada, emphasized the importance of swift and scalable AI infrastructure in the competitive landscape dominated by global powers like China. "The AI race will not be won by one-off projects," he stated, highlighting the urgency of continuous improvement in AI capabilities. The partnership with Johnson Controls, which employs 40,000 field personnel across essential regions, positions Armada to enhance its manufacturing and deployment capabilities. Joakim Weidemanis, CEO of Johnson Controls, expressed confidence in their collaboration, stating that their combined expertise will enable the rapid delivery of secure, scalable modular data centers. Armada's products are already being utilized by the U.S. military and various industries operating in challenging environments, including mining and oil and gas. Notably, the U.S. Navy has integrated Armada's technology in its UNITAS Naval exercise, demonstrating its effectiveness in maritime operations. Additionally, Armada is involved in the U.S. Department of Energy's Genesis Mission, working to connect national labs and supercomputers in an AI research initiative. The company's recent performance has been remarkable, with customer bookings surging by 540% from fiscal year 2025 to 2026, and Q1 FY27 alone witnessing a staggering 2,000% year-over-year increase. The funding round was oversubscribed and co-led by Overmatch, 8090 Industries, and BlackRock, alongside a roster of new and existing strategic investors. This financial boost positions Armada at the forefront of a rapidly evolving industry, poised to redefine how modular data centers are integrated into various sectors worldwide.
