In a recent announcement, Sridhar Vembu, CEO of Zoho, revealed that the company is gearing up to implement end-to-end encryption for text messages in its messaging app, Arattai. This highly anticipated update is expected to be available in the next few days, with full backup capabilities projected to launch within two to four weeks. Vembu explained the complexities involved in integrating encryption for text messages. He emphasized the importance of backup functionality, stating, "It is a technically complex challenge. Therefore, we will provide updates progressively over the next couple of weeks to ensure users can preserve their chats even if they reinstall the app." Currently, Arattai supports end-to-end encryption for voice and video calls, but text message encryption is a new feature on the horizon. Vembu assured users that all data is securely stored and encrypted in India, and highlighted that unlike WhatsApp, Arattai does not engage in data selling or ad monetization. Addressing recent changes in app rankings, Vembu characterized the fluctuations as part of a normal growth trajectory, asserting that the ups and downs are common in the tech industry. He stated, "There’s nothing wrong; companies with a long-term vision are those that endure. We remain dedicated to enhancing our core messaging app, which has been in development for a decade, with frequent updates and a focus on building a comprehensive ecosystem." On the subject of competition, Vembu acknowledged that maintaining credible rivals encourages innovation within the sector. He also commented on the current state of artificial intelligence, noting that the initial excitement has begun to wane, yet Zoho continues to prioritize sustained innovation over transient trends.
