Apple is gearing up to introduce its first smart glasses in 2027, with a potential reveal slated for later this year, as reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Known for his insightful coverage of Apple's developments, Gurman has unveiled exciting details about the designs currently under consideration. According to his latest insights, Apple is experimenting with four distinct designs that may debut together or individually. These concepts include a large rectangular frame, a more streamlined rectangular version reminiscent of the glasses worn by CEO Tim Cook, a larger oval or circular frame, and a smaller oval or circular variant. Additionally, Apple is exploring a palette of colors such as black, ocean blue, and light brown. This new direction appears to represent a shift from Apple's earlier, more ambitious plans for a range of mixed and augmented reality devices. The original strategy faced hurdles, including product delays and the lukewarm reception of the Vision Pro. In contrast, the upcoming smart glasses seem to draw inspiration from Meta’s Ray-Ban offerings. While they will not feature any displays, users can expect the ability to capture photos and videos, answer phone calls, enjoy music, and interact with an upgraded version of Siri, all facilitated by oval camera lenses.
