Apple’s upcoming smart glasses to offer multiple designs: All details

Apple is gearing up to unveil its highly anticipated smart glasses by the end of 2026, with initial availability expected as early as next year. According to a report from Bloomberg, the tech titan is currently evaluating four distinct designs for these innovative eyewear options, hinting at a potential launch of all or some of these variations. Among the styles being tested are a large rectangular frame, a sleeker rectangular model reminiscent of those worn by CEO Tim Cook, a larger oval or round design, and a smaller oval or round option. In terms of aesthetics, Apple is experimenting with colors such as Black, Ocean Blue, and Light Brown. The company is also focusing on the use of high-quality materials like acetate to ensure that the smart glasses not only appear sophisticated but also offer durability. One of the standout features in development is a unique camera design, featuring oval-shaped lenses arranged vertically, accompanied by lights around the camera area. This design approach diverges from the typical round cameras found in competing models. Interestingly, Apple intends to develop these smart glasses entirely in-house, rather than collaborating with external partners. The forthcoming smart glasses are expected to share functionality with Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses, although they are not projected to include a display for augmented reality overlays. Instead, users can look forward to features such as photo and video capturing, phone call handling, music playback, and interaction with Apple’s voice assistant, Siri. While the ambition behind Apple's smart glasses is commendable, it also raises questions regarding the company's previous efforts in the AR/VR space. Given the less-than-stellar performance of the Apple Vision Pro in the market, the smart glasses may serve as a strategic 'Plan B' to reinvigorate Apple’s wearable technology division.
