Apple is poised to launch a significantly upgraded version of Siri in spring 2026, a move that follows a series of delays since its initial announcement at the WWDC 2024 event. According to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the new Siri will feature an advanced App Intents capability, transforming the voice assistant into a more intuitive, hands-free interface for iPhone users. This enhanced App Intents functionality will empower users to perform a variety of tasks using just their voices. For instance, Siri will be able to assist with finding specific photos, editing them, and sending them, along with performing actions within different applications. Users will soon be able to command Siri to comment on Instagram posts, browse through shopping apps, and manage their carts seamlessly. The upgrade aims to allow Siri to interact with apps similarly to how users do themselves, ensuring a smooth experience within the app interfaces. However, the implementation of the new feature has become a significant focus for Apple's global data operations team, which is diligently testing and refining the technology. Despite the excitement surrounding these updates, there are internal concerns regarding the accuracy and reliability of the new features, especially in critical areas such as health and banking applications. Apple is cautious about rolling out the new capabilities universally from the start, particularly in high-stakes scenarios where precision is crucial. To mitigate risks, the company is conducting trials with select third-party applications, including Uber, AllTrails, Threads, Temu, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, and WhatsApp, in addition to its own applications. For sensitive categories like banking, Apple is currently evaluating the extent of Siri's functionality to determine the best approach moving forward.
