Apple is fixing the headache of splitting the bill with its new Siri in Camera feature

Navigating group dinners can often lead to awkward moments, especially when it comes to splitting the bill. If you've ever found yourself footing the bill for your friends' extravagant choices while trying to keep your expenses in check, Apple has introduced a solution that might just change the game. Unveiled at WWDC 2026, Apple's latest innovation allows users to simply point their iPhone camera at a restaurant receipt. The new Siri mode within the Camera app enables you to select individual items on the receipt, making it easy to track who ordered what. This means you can send separate Apple Cash payment requests to each person based on their orders, streamlining the process and alleviating the discomfort that often accompanies bill-splitting. Sebastien Marineau-Mes, Apple's Vice President of Software, highlighted the feature during the presentation, stating, "If you’re grabbing a bite with friends and point your iPhone at the bill, you can select what you ordered to split the tab with Apple Cash." While similar functionalities have existed through apps like SplitWise or Tab, they never gained widespread popularity. Apple's integration of payment features within familiar apps like iMessage could make the process feel more intuitive and accessible, eliminating the need for additional downloads. In addition to bill-splitting, the Siri in Camera feature offers another practical use: determining estimated nutrition information of your meal by simply pointing your camera at the dish. This combination of practicality and innovation positions Apple as a frontrunner in enhancing the dining experience for its users.
