Apple unveils iPad Pro with M5 chip, boosting AI power and performance

Apple has officially launched the new iPad Pro, which is equipped with the groundbreaking M5 chip, marking a significant advancement in their tablet lineup. This new chip is designed to enhance AI processing capabilities, graphics performance, and overall efficiency, setting a high standard for professional tablets. The M5 chip boasts a next-generation GPU with a Neural Accelerator integrated into each core, enabling it to achieve AI performance that is up to 3.5 times faster than its predecessor, the M4-powered iPad Pro, and up to 5.6 times quicker than the M1 model. Additionally, it introduces the N1 wireless chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7, and the C1X modem, providing a remarkable 50 percent improvement in cellular connectivity. John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, emphasized the potential of the new iPad Pro, stating, "Powered by the next generation of Apple silicon, the new iPad Pro delivers our most advanced and versatile iPad experience yet." He highlighted the device’s significant enhancements in AI performance, graphics capabilities, and superfast wireless connectivity, alongside innovative features in iPadOS 26. Available in 11-inch and 13-inch models, the new iPad Pro features the Ultra Retina XDR display with tandem OLED technology, capable of reaching peak brightness levels of up to 1600 nits for HDR content. The display also supports ProMotion and True Tone technology for improved color accuracy. A special nano-texture glass option is available to minimize glare, catering to professionals working in bright settings. With the M5 chip, the device incorporates Apple’s most sophisticated Neural Engine, allowing for accelerated on-device AI functions, including image generation and video masking for applications like Draw Things and DaVinci Resolve. The 10-core GPU and CPU together provide up to 6.7 times faster rendering than the M1 model, making the iPad Pro an excellent choice for 3D design, video editing, and gaming. The device offers an impressive 150GB/s unified memory bandwidth and storage speeds that are up to double those of previous models, ensuring smoother multitasking experiences. Furthermore, it supports fast charging, allowing users to achieve a 50 percent charge in approximately 30 minutes with Apple’s 70W USB-C adapter. The iPad Pro also integrates the N1 chip for wireless networking, enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread technology. The C1X modem optimizes mobile connectivity while consuming up to 30 percent less power compared to earlier iterations. Weighing less than previous models and measuring only 5.3mm thick for the 11-inch version and 5.1mm for the 13-inch, it stands as one of the slimmest tablets available. Shipping with iPadOS 26, the new iPad Pro offers a polished interface, enhanced multitasking, and improved file management. It features Apple Intelligence for on-device AI functionalities, including Live Translation and new Shortcuts, as well as upgraded audio controls for creators. The iPad Pro is compatible with the Apple Pencil Pro, which includes advanced features such as squeeze and haptic feedback for greater precision, as well as the new Magic Keyboard featuring a premium aluminum palm rest and function row. Pre-orders are currently open on Apple’s website and in retail stores, with deliveries set to commence on October 22. The pricing starts at ₹99,990 for the Wi-Fi model of the 11-inch iPad Pro and ₹1,19,900 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular version. The 13-inch model begins at ₹1,29,900 for Wi-Fi and ₹1,49,900 for Wi-Fi + Cellular. The Apple Pencil Pro is priced at ₹11,900, while the new Magic Keyboard costs ₹29,900 for the 11-inch model and ₹33,900 for the 13-inch variant.
