iOS 26.2 rolls out with Apple Music upgrades, Liquid Glass, AirDrop security

Apple has officially launched iOS 26.2, marking the second significant update to its iOS 26 operating system since its debut in September. This update, which became available on December 12, follows the iOS 26.1 release and is compatible with all iPhone models introduced from 2019 onward, including the iPhone 11 series, iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation), and the iPhone 17 lineup. Users can initiate the update by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update, followed by selecting Download and Install. Apple emphasizes that this update is substantial, featuring a variety of enhancements as well as crucial bug fixes. Among the most notable changes are significant upgrades to Apple Music. Users can now find a new Favorite Songs playlist in the Top Picks section on the Home tab. Additionally, offline lyrics are accessible for downloaded tracks, enabling users to read song lyrics without needing an internet connection. The podcast experience has also been improved, with auto-generated chapters making it simpler to navigate lengthy episodes and direct links to related podcasts appearing in the player and transcripts. For gamers, the update introduces new filters in the Games Library, allowing sorting by size and category. Challenge score banners provide real-time updates on ranking changes, and the compatibility with third-party controllers, such as Backbone and Razer, has been enhanced. Customization and accessibility features have also received attention. Users can enjoy more options for Lock Screen time customization, including the ability to adjust the opacity of the Liquid Glass material. A new Flash for alerts feature allows the device screen to flash when notifications are received. In terms of safety and emergency features, particularly for U.S. users, Enhanced Safety Alerts now offer more comprehensive information regarding natural disasters and emergencies, complete with maps and links to official resources. Productivity enhancements include the introduction of snooze options and Live Activity support for Alarms within Reminders. AirDrop has been upgraded to include a verification step for transfers involving unknown contacts, enhancing security. Furthermore, a new multipack accessory pairing feature in the Home app simplifies setup for devices sold as a bundle. Freeform users will benefit from improved tables that can now accommodate images, text, documents, and drawings, with cells that automatically resize for better layouts. Finally, the update addresses several bugs, including an issue that prevented pre-release albums in Apple Music from being playable immediately upon release, as well as a bug affecting the visibility of Privacy & Security settings. Stay tuned for more updates on technology and innovations as they unfold.
