
Apple is reportedly preparing to enhance its MagSafe charging accessories in anticipation of the iPhone 17 series launch. Recent listings from regulatory authorities indicate that the company is developing two new MagSafe chargers that may offer significantly faster wireless charging speeds, potentially up to 50W. These chargers, identified by model numbers A3502 and A3503, were recently discovered on Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) website, as reported by 91Mobiles. While they closely resemble the existing MagSafe accessories, they are designed to accommodate the upcoming Qi2.2 wireless charging standard. This new standard, expected to be officially revealed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) soon, promises advancements in power delivery, magnetic alignment, and overall charging efficiency. The documentation from the NCC suggests that these chargers could deliver a maximum output of 45W, marking a significant increase from the current 15W limit of existing MagSafe products. If these projections hold true, it could mean that the iPhone 17 series will feature the fastest wireless charging capability seen to date on an iPhone. The two models differ primarily in cable length: the A3502 includes a one-meter cable, while the A3503 comes with a two-meter option. Notably, the new chargers are expected to maintain backward compatibility with many existing iPhone models, supporting devices from the iPhone 11 up to the latest iPhone 16. However, the iPhone 17 will be the first to fully utilize the benefits of the new Qi2.2 standard, as earlier models lack support for it. Currently, the iPhone 16 series can achieve up to 25W wireless charging when paired with Apple’s 30W charger, which is still significantly below the potential capabilities of Qi2.2. The anticipated upgrades could further solidify Apple's position in the wireless charging market as they push for faster, more efficient solutions.
