Apple has rolled out its latest software update, iOS 26.1, which brings a highly requested feature: adjustable transparency for the Liquid Glass interface. This new capability allows users to modify the see-through effect of system elements across menus, notifications, and widgets, enhancing overall usability. Previously, users were limited to disabling the transparency feature entirely through Accessibility settings, which resulted in a flat interface that lacked the layered look introduced in iOS 26. The update now offers a balanced solution, enabling a more readable and less reflective appearance without completely turning off the effect. To take advantage of this feature, users need to ensure their iPhone is updated to iOS 26.1 or later. This update is compatible with all devices supporting iOS 26, including the iPhone 13 series and the latest models like the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 17. Once updated, users can find the new controls under Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass. This section features a straightforward menu that allows for adjustments in how much background detail is visible through interface elements. Users can choose between two options: Clear and Tinted, with a live preview that facilitates easy comparison before making a selection. While this update may not radically change the user experience, it effectively addresses a common critique of iOS 26's design, providing a way to reduce the glossy finish and improving usability in various lighting conditions.
