Samsung almost confirms launch of iPhone Fold in 2026

The highly anticipated foldable iPhone from Apple may soon become a reality, as recent reports indicate that Samsung Display is preparing to produce the necessary panels for the device. According to a report from South Korea's Chosun Biz, Samsung Display President Lee Cheong revealed that the company is gearing up for mass production of foldable OLED displays for a yet-to-be-named North American client, which many industry insiders believe is Apple. Samsung Display already supplies screens for the iPhone line, and the timing of this announcement aligns perfectly with ongoing speculation surrounding the launch of a foldable iPhone in 2026. If these reports hold true, the device, likely named the iPhone Fold, could be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 series in September 2026. Production of Samsung's new 8.6th generation OLED panels, which are touted to be more efficient than the current 6th generation, is expected to commence in the third quarter of the upcoming year. Rumors surrounding the foldable iPhone suggest that it could feature a generous 7.74-inch internal display alongside a 5.49-inch cover screen. The device is anticipated to be remarkably thin, measuring just 4.8mm when unfolded—thinner than the existing 5.6mm iPhone Air and sleeker than competing foldables, such as Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7. Design leaks indicate that Apple might include dual 48MP rear cameras and a selfie camera on both screens. Furthermore, the device could incorporate a 24MP under-display camera and possibly utilize Touch ID instead of Face ID, creating a nearly all-screen experience without the need for a notch or Dynamic Island. In terms of performance, the foldable iPhone is expected to be powered by Apple's upcoming A20 chipset, promising significant advancements in processing power. While Apple has yet to officially confirm any specifics, analysts predict that the iPhone Fold will come with a hefty price tag, estimated to be around $2,000 in the US, positioning it as one of the priciest iPhones ever released. As Apple ventures into the foldable market, which Samsung first entered with its Galaxy Fold in 2019, expectations are soaring. Whether the iPhone Fold will live up to the hype remains to be seen, but Apple fans may want to start saving for what could be a groundbreaking addition to the iPhone lineup.
