Apple to unveil ‘Liquid Glass’ UI at WWDC 2025, setting stage for new iPhone

Apple is preparing to showcase its latest operating systems for iPhones, iPads, Macs, and more at the highly anticipated WWDC 2025 conference. This year, the tech giant is expected to implement a significant shift in the naming convention of its operating systems, moving from the traditional scheme to a new format. Consequently, iPhone software will be known as iOS 26, alongside iPadOS 26 and macOS 26, among others. A standout feature this year is the introduction of a new user interface called 'Liquid Glass.' Inspired by the design elements of the Vision Pro headset, this innovative interface aims to enhance the transparency of Apple's operating systems. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reports that these new UI elements will present a sleek, glass-like appearance, creating a visually stunning experience across all devices. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to unify the look and feel of Apple’s software lineup. Users can expect transparency and gloss effects to be integrated across toolbars, in-app interfaces, and controls, making for a cohesive aesthetic. In addition to the software advancements, the new Liquid Glass UI is anticipated to pave the way for exciting hardware releases. Apple plans to introduce a revamped iPhone in 2027, marking the device's two-decade anniversary. This new model, internally dubbed 'Glasswing'—after the butterfly known for its transparent wings—will reportedly feature a seamless design with curved glass edges and minimal bezels, eliminating the traditional cutout sections. The last major overhaul of Apple's iPhone UI dates back to 2013 when the design team led by Jony Ive transitioned to a 'flat design' approach, which favored vibrant colors and simplified interfaces over realistic elements. As anticipation builds for WWDC 2025, consumers are eager to see how these changes will transform their Apple experience.
