Sleep score is coming to Apple Watch, works similar to Fitbit, Garmin

Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch a sleep scoring feature for its Apple Watch, as revealed by MacRumors contributor Steve Moser through insights from the latest iOS 26 beta. Moser identified a graphic within the Health app’s code that showcases an Apple Watch interface displaying the number '84', encircled by three colored bars. These colors appear to correspond with existing sleep stage indicators utilized by Apple, suggesting that orange likely signifies awake time, while shades of blue might indicate REM and deeper sleep stages. The graphic is surrounded by various sleep-themed icons commonly seen in iOS, such as a moon and stars, a 'zzz', a bed, a sleep stage diagram, an alarm clock, and a thermometer. Intriguingly, this image has been internally labeled as 'Watch Focus Score', hinting at the possibility that Apple is crafting a new composite metric for sleep. This metric could potentially assess daytime focus based on sleep quality. Competitors like Fitbit, Oura Ring, and Garmin already provide users with a daily sleep score that summarizes sleep quality by evaluating duration, sleep stages, and health metrics like heart rate and temperature. In contrast, the Apple Watch has primarily offered detailed sleep stage data and duration but has not yet incorporated a comprehensive score that could enhance user engagement and deliver actionable insights. The inclusion of a thermometer icon in the graphic may indicate that the anticipated sleep score could integrate multiple health metrics, akin to the Vitals feature introduced with watchOS 11. However, Apple has yet to officially confirm this feature, and there are no further mentions of a sleep score in the current beta. It remains uncertain whether this functionality will be unveiled with watchOS 26 or if it pertains to a different feature that is still in development.
