Apple intros M5 Pro and Max MacBook Pros and its first new monitors in years

In a significant update, Apple has refreshed its higher-end MacBook Pro lineup by introducing the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, following last year’s release of the M5 for the lower-end models. The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros now boast enhanced specifications, including a base storage upgrade to 1TB for the M5 Pro and 2TB for the M5 Max. The company claims that the internal storage in these latest models is up to twice as fast compared to their predecessors. Consequently, the entry-level M5 MacBook Pro has also seen an increase in base storage, moving from 512GB to 1TB. However, these enhancements come with a price hike. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro now starts at $2,199, up from $1,999, while the 16-inch model begins at $2,699 instead of $2,499. Furthermore, the M5 MacBook Pro starts at $1,699, a slight increase from $1,599. While users benefit from double the storage capacity, the option to choose a lower storage configuration at a reduced price is no longer available. The M5 Pro and M5 Max represent a marked evolution from the M4 Pro and M4 Max models. Both chips feature an 18-core CPU, which includes six high-performance cores—now referred to as “super cores”—and 12 newly designed performance cores that are optimized for power-efficient, multithreaded tasks tailored for professional use. While Apple did not provide specific comparisons to previous generations, it did highlight that the M5 Pro and M5 Max offer up to 2.5 times higher multithreaded performance than their M1 Pro and M1 Max counterparts, indicating a substantial leap forward for users demanding high performance from their devices.
