Apple has made a significant leap in laptop technology with the introduction of its latest MacBook Pro models, powered by the innovative M5 Pro and M5 Max chipsets. These new processors promise to deliver enhanced performance, particularly in artificial intelligence, boasting up to four times the AI capabilities of their predecessors. John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, emphasized that these new laptops redefine the standards for professional devices, stating, "The MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max is now up to four times faster than the previous generation." The new chips utilize a groundbreaking fusion architecture designed specifically for AI tasks. Featuring an 18-core CPU that includes six super cores and twelve performance cores, the M5 Pro and M5 Max are engineered to provide up to 30% faster performance compared to the M4 Pro and M4 Max processors. This upgrade translates to a remarkable fourfold increase in LLM prompts and a 50% boost in graphics performance. Memory capabilities have also received a substantial upgrade. The M5 Pro supports up to 64GB of unified memory with a memory bandwidth of 307GB/s, while the M5 Max can accommodate up to 128GB of unified memory and offers 614GB/s of bandwidth. Storage options have expanded as well, with the M5 Pro model starting at 1TB and the M5 Max offering a generous 2TB. Connectivity is enhanced with the inclusion of the new N1 wireless networking chip, enabling support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The MacBook Pro continues to feature its stunning 14 and 16-inch Liquid Retina XDR displays, capable of reaching peak HDR brightness levels of 1600 nits and 1000 nits for standard dynamic range content. Buyers can also select a nano-texture option for the display. In terms of ports, the new MacBook Pro models come equipped with three Thunderbolt 5 ports, an HDMI port supporting up to 8K resolution, an SDXC card slot, and MagSafe 3 for fast charging capabilities. Remarkably, the battery life is rated for up to 24 hours, supported by a 96W or higher USB-C power adapter. As for pricing in India, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro starts at Rs 2,49,900, while the 16-inch version is available for Rs 2,99,900. The M5 Max models are priced at Rs 3,99,900 for the 14-inch and Rs 4,29,900 for the 16-inch. All models are offered in sleek space black and silver finishes, with pre-orders starting from March 4 on apple.com and via the Apple Store app, and sales officially launching on March 11.
