Apple releases iOS 26.1, macOS 26.1, other updates with Liquid Glass controls and more

In a highly anticipated move, Apple has rolled out the final versions of its 26.1 updates across a range of operating systems, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS, and the HomePod OS. This release marks a significant transition for the company as it adopts a new unified year-based version numbering system. This isn’t just another routine update; it brings substantial enhancements and fixes to address the common bugs and issues that arise following major releases. One of the standout features is the introduction of a new translucency control for Liquid Glass. This feature allows users to adjust the effect—opting for either the traditional Clear appearance, which maintains a glassy look, or the newly introduced Tinted option, offering a more opaque backdrop that helps improve readability. For iPad users, the update reintroduces an enhanced version of the Slide Over multitasking feature. Users can now quickly summon and dismiss apps with swipes, though the interface has been modified. While switching between applications in Slide Over mode has become somewhat more challenging, the new design allows users to move and resize the Slide Over window just like any other app window in iPadOS 26. These updates demonstrate Apple's commitment to refining user experience while addressing feedback from its community, ensuring that its devices are not only functional but also user-friendly.
