Apple commits $30 billion to Broadcom for U.S. chipmaking push

Apple has announced a significant expansion of its collaboration with chip manufacturer Broadcom, entering into a multi-year agreement that is projected to surpass $30 billion. This deal represents Apple's largest commitment to U.S. manufacturing to date and was revealed in a statement on Wednesday. Under this partnership, the production of over 15 billion chips will take place within the United States, accompanied by a $1.5 billion investment to enhance Broadcom's facility located in Fort Collins, Colorado. Although Apple has not specified when the new manufacturing capacity will become operational, the deal marks a notable deepening of their relationship, shifting toward the development of custom silicon produced domestically. Broadcom has historically provided Apple with essential connectivity components. The new agreement will focus on the supply of wireless components crucial for ensuring seamless connections across cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth networks. Furthermore, Broadcom revealed in a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it has entered long-term agreements with Apple to develop and provide custom application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for various Apple products up until 2031. These ASICs are increasingly vital for handling artificial intelligence tasks. For Tim Cook, Apple's outgoing CEO, this partnership signifies a continued commitment to bolstering American manufacturing, aligning with priorities set during the Trump administration. This initiative is part of Apple's broader $600 billion investment strategy aimed at enhancing U.S. production capabilities, which was announced back in 2025. It also marks the most substantial commitment made under the American Manufacturing Program (AMP), aimed at increasing domestic production throughout Apple's supply chain. In the announcement, Apple emphasized its efforts to collaborate with the government and American businesses to establish a comprehensive silicon supply chain in the U.S. Cook stated that the components produced in Fort Collins are vital for meeting the connectivity and performance expectations of Apple users, and he expressed gratitude to President Trump and his administration for their support of this initiative. Broadcom's CEO, Hock Tan, noted that Apple's commitment would facilitate the expansion of Broadcom's manufacturing presence in Fort Collins.
