Apple announces iPhone 17 with bigger 6.3-inch always-on ProMotion screen, A19 chip

As the calendar turns to September, Apple has unveiled its latest innovation: the iPhone 17, during a highly anticipated event. This new model is making waves primarily due to its impressive display enhancements, setting a new standard for the base iPhone model. The iPhone 17 boasts a larger 6.3-inch OLED screen, a notable upgrade from the previous 6.1-inch version. This change mirrors the increase seen in last year's iPhone 16 Pro, but what truly stands out is the introduction of 120 Hz ProMotion technology to the standard iPhone lineup for the first time. This dynamic refresh rate adjusts according to user activity, dipping as low as 1 Hz during low-power always-on display mode, enhancing both usability and battery efficiency. Additionally, Apple has taken strides in durability, incorporating Ceramic Shield 2 technology that significantly boosts scratch resistance, claiming it to be three times tougher than its predecessor. Users will also appreciate the screen’s ability to reach up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness outdoors, ensuring visibility even in bright sunlight. At the heart of the iPhone 17 is the new A19 chip, which retains the familiar 6-core CPU configuration with two high-performance cores and four efficiency cores. The chip also features a 16-core Neural Engine and a 5-core GPU, promising a performance boost of approximately 20 percent over the A18 chip, making it a powerhouse for various applications.
