Apple has launched the second beta version of iOS 26.1, aimed at developers and beta testers, just two weeks after releasing the initial beta. This update brings several noteworthy enhancements, including a new toggle for Background Security Improvements, expanded workout customization options, and various interface tweaks. One of the standout features of this update is the Background Security Improvements option found in the Privacy and Security settings. This new toggle allows users to automatically download and install crucial security updates, effectively replacing the earlier Rapid Security Responses feature. The Clock app has also seen a usability upgrade. Users will now need to slide across the screen to dismiss an alarm, which is designed to minimize accidental dismissals. A simple tap will still activate the snooze function, making it easier for users to manage their morning routines. Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the new capability to create custom workouts in the Fitness app. Users can now tailor their exercise routines by selecting exercise types, duration, effort levels, Active Calories goals, and start times, providing a more personalized workout experience. In addition to these features, visual improvements have been made throughout the system. The layout of text and icons in the Settings app has shifted to the left, replacing the previous centered arrangement for a sleeker look. This adjustment also extends to folder names on the Home Screen. The Photos app has been revamped as well, with key options like Favourite, Play Slideshow, and Hide now easily accessible at the top of the menu, rather than buried in a dropdown list. Other enhancements include a new Display Borders toggle in the Accessibility settings, improved light refraction effects for darker icons and wallpapers, and a Pinch to Crop indicator that briefly appears when selecting a wallpaper. This update is available over the air (OTA) for registered Apple developers and beta testers using iPhone 11 or later models. A public beta is also accessible for users enrolled in Apple's beta software program. To update, users can go to Settings > General > Software Update > Install Now.
