On Tuesday, Apple introduced the fourth developer beta for its upcoming software update, iOS 26, showcasing several enhancements, including refinements to its Liquid Glass design and the return of AI-driven news summaries. This latest beta comes just before the anticipated public beta launch later this week. Developer betas are designed to allow app developers to prepare their applications for the new operating system, set to be publicly released in the coming months. Apple's trend of offering public betas after its Worldwide Developers Conference in June has become increasingly popular, enabling users to experience updated software while minimizing potential bugs and stability issues. iOS 26 beta 4 features a fresh “Welcome” splash screen upon updating, along with introductory screens highlighting various functionalities, such as Siri's AI news summaries and the revamped Camera app. Apple aims to improve user experience with these new features, while also addressing earlier concerns raised by the BBC regarding misinformation in AI-generated summaries. Earlier this year, Apple had to pause its AI notification summaries due to an incident where the feature misrepresented a news headline. The AI summary incorrectly stated that Luigi Mangione, charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, had died by suicide. In response, Apple committed to releasing updates to clarify the nature of AI-generated summaries. Currently, the setup screen for this feature warns users that “Summarization may change the meaning of the original headlines” and encourages them to verify the information. Beta testers have noted ongoing refinements in the Liquid Glass interface, with this version reverting some transparency elements that were altered in beta 3. Improvements have been reported in various applications, including the App Store, Photos, and Apple Music, along with a dynamic tint effect in the Notification Center as users scroll through notifications. Additionally, the background becomes darker when reading notifications, enhancing readability. The update also introduces new dynamic wallpapers that change colors, along with new CarPlay wallpapers, further enriching the user experience. As of now, detailed release notes for beta 4 have not been made available on Apple's Developer website, suggesting that more features and minor updates might still be discovered. Alongside iOS 26 beta 4, Apple has also launched updates for its other platforms, including iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, visionOS 26, and Xcode 26 beta 4.
