At the recent WWDC event, Apple showcased significant advancements in visionOS 26, the operating system designed for its mixed reality headset. Building on the innovative Apple Vision Pro, which seamlessly merges digital and physical realms, the latest updates cater to both individual users and businesses. Among the standout features are spatial widgets that provide personalized information in an interactive manner. With visionOS 26, these widgets can be customized in size, color, and depth, allowing users to position them anywhere in their environment. New offerings include a customizable clock, weather updates that reflect real-time conditions, music access for quick tune selection, and a photos widget that can transform into panoramic views or serve as a window to different spaces. Additionally, the Photos app has been upgraded with a cutting-edge AI algorithm that utilizes computational depth to create multiple perspectives from standard 2D images, enhancing the visual experience to feel as if users can step into the photos themselves. The browsing experience on Safari is being transformed with spatial browsing, which eliminates distractions and enables inline images to animate as users scroll. Apple also improved its AI-driven avatar feature, Personas, which serves as a realistic representation during video calls. With visionOS 26, these avatars leverage advanced volumetric rendering and machine learning to deliver an authentic likeness, capturing details like hair and complexion with impressive accuracy. The creation process for these avatars happens rapidly on-device. The new functionalities extend to social and collaborative experiences, allowing users to enjoy movies or engage in spatial games with friends who are also wearing headsets. This feature is also beneficial for businesses, exemplified by 3D design firm Dassault Systèmes, which is utilizing the capabilities of visionOS 26 in its 3DLive app for improved team collaboration. Further enhancing enterprise usability, Apple has made it simpler for organizations to manage device sharing among team members, ensuring secure storage of personal data like eye and hand settings directly on iPhones. A new privacy feature, labeled 'for your eyes only,' restricts access to confidential content. Lastly, Apple introduced the Logitech Muse, a spatial accessory designed for the Vision Pro, enabling users to draw and collaborate in 3D environments with precision. visionOS 26 will also support multiple new languages, including French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. Users can now navigate apps and websites using eye movements and can even unlock their iPhones while wearing the headset, facilitating seamless communication through call relaying from iPhone to Apple Vision Pro.
