Say hi to “Siri AI"—Apple announces new, more “conversational” voice assistant

In a highly anticipated announcement during its pre-recorded Worldwide Developers Conference keynote, Apple introduced the long-awaited enhancement to its Siri voice assistant, now branded as "Siri AI." This upgrade is slated for release alongside upcoming OS updates this fall and promises to integrate advanced AI capabilities powered by Google into Apple's existing framework. Craig Federighi, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, emphasized the company's commitment to user-centric AI, stating, "While many seem to chase AI for the sake of it, we believe that effective AI must prioritize your needs." This philosophy was evident in a series of scripted demonstrations that showcased Siri AI's conversational prowess, featuring natural pauses and fluid transitions between tasks. The demonstrations illustrated Siri AI's versatility, as it seamlessly navigated various user requests. For instance, one scenario depicted a user inquiring about World Cup schedule details, subsequently requesting Brazil vs. Morocco-inspired recipes, and recalling a dessert mentioned by a friend named Maria. Siri AI not only retrieved this information but also compiled it into a comprehensive watch party menu, complete with an invitation sent to a group chat. In another example, a user began by asking for the location of a specific photo and then shifted to finding a friend's new address. With those details, Siri was able to provide directions to the photo's location while including a stop at the friend's house, all through Apple Maps. This evolution in Siri's capabilities signals a significant step towards a more intuitive and interactive virtual assistant experience.
