Apple TV gets rare discount in Peacock streaming bundle

In an exciting development for streaming enthusiasts, Apple is launching a bundled subscription offer that combines Apple TV with NBCUniversal's Peacock, starting from October 20. This partnership marks a significant shift for Apple, as it ventures into offering discounts on its streaming service, which is typically priced at $13 per month. Peacock offers various tiers, beginning at $8 per month with ads and $11 for an ad-free experience. With this new bundle, subscribers can access both services for a combined total of $15 per month if they choose the ad-supported version of Peacock, or $20 per month for the ad-free option. This initiative aims to attract more viewers to Apple TV's offerings, as noted by Oliver Schusser, Apple’s Vice President of Apple TV, Music, Sports, and Beats, who expressed optimism about increasing accessibility to Apple TV content. The trend of bundling streaming services has gained popularity as providers seek to retain subscribers. By linking multiple services, companies hope to reduce cancellation rates, as users may be less inclined to drop a subscription that's paired with another service they enjoy. Historically, Apple has been cautious with bundling, previously offering a full-price Apple TV service alongside Showtime and Paramount+ but not extending major discounts until now. As part of this collaboration, select Apple Originals will be available to Peacock subscribers. At launch, Peacock users can watch up to three episodes of popular titles such as "Stick," "Slow Horses," and "Foundation" from Apple TV, while Apple TV app users will get a taste of shows like "Law & Order" and "Bel-Air" from Peacock, also featuring three free episodes. Moreover, subscribers to Apple One’s Family or Premier Plans can upgrade to Peacock’s premium subscription—which includes offline downloads and is usually priced at $17 per month—for approximately $11 per month, marking a notable 35% discount. This new approach signals Apple’s willingness to collaborate with competitors, enhancing its service offerings in a competitive streaming landscape.
