In a significant development for its voice assistant, Apple has announced that the upcoming, more advanced version of Siri will leverage Google's Gemini language models. This partnership, described as a 'multi-year collaboration' between the two tech giants, aims to integrate Google's AI capabilities into Apple's software ecosystem. An Apple spokesperson shared with CNBC, "After careful evaluation, we determined that Google’s technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models, and we’re excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for our users." This statement aligns with previous reports from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who hinted at this collaboration late last year. While Apple has not revealed specific financial arrangements, it is speculated that the company will be investing around $1 billion annually for access to Google's AI resources after a thorough evaluation phase. Additionally, it has been reported that the Gemini model will utilize Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers, thereby safeguarding user data from Google’s infrastructure. Despite this partnership, Apple remains committed to enhancing its own in-house language models with the goal of eventually reducing dependency on external technologies.
