Apple hits record $9 billion sales in India as expansion gains pace

In a remarkable achievement, Apple's annual sales in India have soared to nearly $9 billion for the financial year 2024-25, reflecting a significant 13% increase from the prior year, as reported by Bloomberg. The majority of this revenue stemmed from iPhone sales, with MacBooks also experiencing a surge in demand. This growth comes at a crucial time as global mobile device sales have stabilized, positioning India as one of Apple's fastest-growing markets. Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, recently announced the inauguration of two new retail locations in Bengaluru and Pune, complementing existing stores in Mumbai and Delhi. "Say hello to Apple Hebbal in Bengaluru and Apple Koregaon Park in Pune! We are thrilled to continue to bring the best of Apple to customers across India at these two new stores," Cook shared on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. With the addition of these two new outlets, Apple's official store count in India now stands at four, with plans for further expansion in Noida and Mumbai set for 2026. Apple initially launched its online store in India in 2020, followed by the opening of physical stores in 2023. India has also emerged as a crucial component of Apple's supply chain, with one in every five iPhones now being assembled in the country across five factories, including two recently established facilities. This strategy is part of Apple's initiative to lessen its dependence on China, where demand has been lackluster. According to Bloomberg, Apple ramped up iPhone assembly in India by 60% in FY25, amounting to an estimated value of $22 billion. This expansion aligns with Apple's broader vision of transforming India into not just a significant sales market but also a key global production hub. Currently, India ranks as Apple's fourth-largest market globally, following the United States, China, and Japan. With a consumer base eager to invest in premium devices and government incentives promoting local manufacturing, analysts anticipate a continued upward trajectory for Apple's market share in India's smartphone sector.
