Apple expands American manufacturing program with four new partners

Apple has announced a major enhancement of its American Manufacturing Program, introducing four new partners: Bosch, Cirrus Logic, TDK, and Qnity Electronics. This strategic move aims to bolster its domestic supply chain by producing critical materials and components for Apple products sold globally. The tech giant plans to invest $400 million in these initiatives through 2030, emphasizing its commitment to American innovation and manufacturing. CEO Tim Cook described this expansion as a testament to the potential of U.S. manufacturing, calling these partnerships a 'powerful example' of what can be achieved through investment in local industry. The collaboration is expected to create new jobs and enhance the nation’s manufacturing capabilities. This expansion is part of Apple's broader American Manufacturing Program (AMP), which is central to its ambitious $600 billion, four-year commitment to manufacturing and innovation in the U.S. Launched in August 2025, AMP has already surpassed its initial goals, sourcing over 20 billion U.S.-made chips from 24 factories across 12 states. Among the new partners, TDK will manufacture sensors domestically for the first time, contributing technology used in features like iPhone camera stabilization. Bosch is set to produce integrated circuits vital for features such as Crash Detection and activity tracking at a facility in Washington. Cirrus Logic will collaborate with GlobalFoundries to develop advanced semiconductors, including chips that power Face ID systems. Additionally, Qnity Electronics and HD MicroSystems will provide materials and technologies for semiconductor manufacturing and high-performance computing. Apple's ongoing initiatives include significant projects such as the new $7 billion semiconductor packaging facility by Amkor in Arizona, where Apple will be a primary customer. The company is also set to produce the Mac mini at its Houston factory later this year, marking a significant step in U.S. production. This expansion aligns with Apple’s efforts to deepen its domestic supply chain amid increasing calls from both the government and the tech sector for enhanced local production. Over the past few years, Apple has absorbed approximately $3.3 billion in tariff costs due to changing trade policies, a decision made to keep consumer prices stable. With recent changes in the legal landscape regarding tariffs, the future of Apple’s cost management strategies may evolve, although the company has not indicated plans to recover previously incurred costs.
