Apple’s foldable iPhone may launch in late 2026, display specs leaked

Apple is gearing up to make its mark in the foldable smartphone arena, with expectations for its inaugural foldable iPhone to hit the market in the latter half of 2026. Insights from TrendForce, a prominent market research firm, have provided intriguing details about the device's display specifications, painting a clearer picture of what the anticipated 'iPhone Fold' could entail. According to the report, the foldable iPhone is poised to feature a 5.5-inch outer screen alongside a 7.8-inch internal foldable display. These projected dimensions align with earlier forecasts from a Chinese informant this year. Should these predictions hold true, Apple’s foldable offering would present a smaller display area compared to Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Fold 7, which boasts a more expansive screen. While the report stops short of revealing additional technical specifications, it hints that Apple is dedicated to crafting a version of iOS specifically optimized for foldable functionalities. The foldable iPhone is anticipated to run on a variant identified as iOS 27. Further insights from industry analysts, including the well-respected Ming-Chi Kuo, suggest that the inner display will be produced by Samsung Display, designed to eliminate the visible crease that plagues many current foldable models. Additionally, a custom hinge and backplate, engineered by Fine M-Tec, are reportedly in development to enhance the device’s structural integrity. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also speculated that the design could closely resemble that of the Galaxy Z Fold series, potentially incorporating parts sourced from Samsung. Apple is said to be working on integrating these components with its proprietary software to deliver a unique user experience. As it stands, the foldable iPhone is expected to enter a competitive landscape, vying against the next generation of foldable options from leading Android brands, including upcoming models from the Galaxy Z Fold series, Vivo X Fold 5, and Oppo Find N5. As the projected launch date in 2026 approaches, more detailed specifications and potential pricing are anticipated to surface, further igniting consumer interest.
