After iPhone 17 Pro, Apple could bring vapor chamber cooling to more devices

In a significant advancement for its devices, Apple has introduced a vapor cooling system in the iPhone 17 Pro, marking its first foray into liquid cooling technology. This innovative system effectively manages heat, reducing thermal throttling and enhancing performance during demanding tasks. According to a report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the tech giant is planning to implement this advanced cooling technology in the upcoming iPad Pro. While vapor cooling has been a staple in many Android devices, particularly in flagship models from Chinese manufacturers, Apple's introduction of this system is a strategic move to encourage iPhone users to consider upgrades. Historically, iPads have benefited from their larger surface area, allowing for better heat dissipation. However, Gurman points out that the current iPad Pro has struggled with overheating during resource-intensive activities, such as video editing and artificial intelligence tasks. Earlier this month, Apple unveiled its latest iPad Pro featuring the M5 chip, which boasts performance levels comparable to the Mac Studio M1 Ultra. As user demands on the iPad continue to grow, it seems Apple is gearing up to integrate vapor chamber technology into the next generation of iPad Pro models. The tablet's upgrade cycle typically spans 18 months, suggesting a potential launch in spring 2027. The next iPad Pro is expected to be equipped with Apple's M6 processor, which may be produced using TSMC's advanced 2nm process, promising enhanced performance and efficiency. Although Apple won't be the first to include vapor chamber cooling in tablets, the company is likely to leverage this technology as a key selling point for prospective buyers during the upcoming launch. Additionally, Gurman mentions that Apple may extend vapor chamber cooling to other devices, such as the fan-less MacBook Air. Users of the 14-inch MacBook Pro have reported instances of thermal throttling linked to the new M5 chip, highlighting the demand for improved cooling solutions across Apple's product lineup.
