Apple overhauls App Store age ratings, adds new 13+, 16+, and 18+ categories

Apple has unveiled significant changes to its App Store age rating system, introducing a more comprehensive classification for apps and games. This announcement came alongside the public beta launch of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, and watchOS 26. With this update, developers are now required to categorize their apps using a wider array of age designations, including newly added 13+, 16+, and 18+ ratings, in addition to the existing 4+ and 9+ categories. Apple aims to provide clearer guidance for users and parents about the content they are downloading. The new rating system also takes into account regional variations, ensuring that classifications align with local content suitability guidelines.
