Apple’s foldable iPhone could be just around the corner

Exciting news for tech enthusiasts: Apple may soon reveal its much-anticipated foldable iPhone, with indications pointing to a potential launch this fall. Recent discoveries by researcher @M1Astra in the iOS 27 developer beta suggest that this innovative device could make its debut during Apple's hardware announcements in September. The code found within iOS 27 features intriguing references such as "foldState," "mechanicalAngleDegrees," and "MGGetLogicalDeviceDisplayCount." These terms imply that the software has the capability to detect the phone's folding action, including the angle at which it is opened and the number of active displays. This indicates that Apple's potential foldable device will likely operate on the newly unveiled iOS 27, showcased at the recent WWDC keynote. While competitors like Samsung and Huawei have been pioneering foldable technology for over five years, Apple’s entry into this market comes with high expectations. One significant consideration for consumers is the thickness of foldable devices. The allure of having an additional screen might not outweigh the practicality of easily fitting a phone into a pocket, particularly for those in women's fashion, which often lacks functional pockets. Apple has made strides in creating slim devices, exemplified by last year’s iPhone Air, measuring a mere 5.6 millimeters in thickness. Should Apple release a foldable phone, its dual iPhone Air screens would total approximately 11.2 millimeters, making it thinner than several existing foldable models, except for Samsung's latest Galaxy Z Fold7. As anticipation builds, all eyes are on Apple to see how they will redefine the foldable smartphone experience.
