Apple begins shipping American-made AI servers from Texas

Apple has officially begun the shipment of sophisticated servers designed for artificial intelligence from its newly established factory in Houston, Texas. This significant development was announced by the company on Thursday, marking an essential step in its ambitious plan to invest $600 billion in American manufacturing and associated initiatives. The decision to manufacture these servers domestically aligns with previous calls from President Donald Trump for tech giants like Apple to enhance their manufacturing presence within the United States. Initially disclosed in February, this initiative is set to bolster Apple's infrastructure, specifically its Apple Intelligence and Private Cloud Compute services. According to Apple Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan, these servers will utilize the company's proprietary silicon technology. Khan praised the efforts of their teams, stating, "Our teams have done an incredible job accelerating work to get the new Houston factory up and running ahead of schedule. We plan to continue expanding the facility to increase production next year." The factory is expected to generate thousands of jobs, contributing positively to the local economy. Previously, the manufacturing of Apple’s servers was conducted overseas. In a related context, Apple CEO Tim Cook met with Trump in August to discuss further investments in the U.S., particularly in semiconductor production as part of its American Manufacturing Program. During this meeting, Cook presented Trump with a gift made from U.S.-sourced Corning glass, used in iPhones and Apple Watches. In addition to these efforts, Apple inaugurated a manufacturing academy in partnership with Michigan State University in July to enhance workforce skills. While Trump has acknowledged Apple’s commitments to U.S. manufacturing, he has also urged the company to shift iPhone production to the U.S., a transition that experts believe could be lengthy and expensive. In September, Cook emphasized Apple’s role in bolstering U.S. manufacturing through collaborations with domestic semiconductor suppliers. He noted that the company’s investments and expertise are facilitating the complete fabrication and packaging of chips within the country. "You can add a lot by making it global and then stitching together the end-to-end supply chain in semiconductors," Cook stated. "I can't stress how important this is and how much that will add to what we're doing."
