Apple’s next iPad Pro may get two selfie cameras, M5 chip under the hood: Report

Apple is reportedly gearing up for significant enhancements to its iPad Pro lineup, as suggested by a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Following the updates introduced with the M4 iPad Pro, the tech giant is poised to make notable changes to the device's front-facing camera system. Insiders indicate that the upcoming iPad Pro may feature not just one, but two selfie cameras. This addition includes a new portrait sensor designed to complement the existing landscape lens. This decision appears to be a response to feedback from users who found the previous shift of the selfie camera from the top to the side of the device less than ideal for video calls or FaceTime in portrait orientation. While Apple is unlikely to reverse its earlier design choice, the introduction of a portrait camera will likely address concerns from both camps of users regarding the selfie camera setup. Details about the forthcoming M5 iPad Pro are still limited, but it is expected to be powered by Apple's latest M5 silicon, potentially making it the first device to utilize this new chip. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously suggested that mass production could begin as early as the first half of 2025, following the M4 chip launch in May 2024. Historically, Apple tends to refresh its iPad Pro models approximately every 18 months, hinting at a possible release around September or October of this year. Before the iPad Pro's anticipated launch, Apple will also host its annual iPhone event in September, where it is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series, featuring four new models: the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
