With iOS 26.2, Apple lets you roll back Liquid Glass again — this time on the Lock Screen

Apple has unveiled an updated feature in its latest iOS 26.2 release, granting users the ability to adjust the transparency of the Lock Screen's clock. This enhancement allows for greater customization of the Liquid Glass effect, which has drawn mixed reactions from users since its introduction. Originally launched with iOS 26, the Liquid Glass design trend incorporates semi-transparent interface elements that refract light, mimicking the appearance of glass. However, many users expressed frustration over readability issues, particularly with notifications and other vital information becoming hard to discern. In response to this feedback, Apple previously introduced a tool in iOS 26.1 that allowed users to revert their interface to a more opaque, “frosted” look. With this latest update, Apple enhances user control by providing a slider specifically for adjusting the clock's transparency on the Lock Screen, rather than applying a broad change across the system. This decision suggests that Apple is not fully committed to the new design, as it seeks to address user concerns. The timing of this update is particularly notable, as it coincides with the departure of Alan Dye, the design executive responsible for the Liquid Glass concept, who has transitioned to Meta. His replacement, Stephen Lemay, brings a focus on interface and interaction design, which may signal a shift in Apple's approach to user interface refinement. In addition to the Liquid Glass adjustments, iOS 26.2 introduces several other features. Users can now generate AirDrop codes for non-contacts, facilitating file sharing in various situations. Other enhancements include alarm support for Reminders, a new Following tab in Apple News, offline lyrics in Apple Music, and AI-generated chapters in the Podcasts app. For Apple Watch users, a new Sleep Score feature will help track sleep quality against personal goals. Moreover, Apple has rolled out critical security updates across its devices, including iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple TVs, and Apple Watches, addressing vulnerabilities exploited in recent hacking incidents.
